The Best Year – Healthier Vines, Less Pests, 26 BRIX

Dennis Erickson, owner of Erickson’s Vines, Fallbrook CA tells us about the changes to his vineyard after applying VermisTerra tea and castings. He no longer finds any “red blotch” leaves, much healthier appearance, there are less pests problems, one vine produced grapes for the first time in 5 years, and 26 BRIX quality wine grapes. The winery are very pleased with his grapes.

Watch: Erickson’s Vines (Part 1) The Best Year – Healthier Vines, Less Pests, 26 BRIX

Uncle Steve talks to Dennis about lab numbers vs organic numbers, letting nature work by building up the organic matter and healthy soil. He compares what it was like growing crops using chemicals vulnerable to disease and ground pests versus growing after discovering worm castings. He saw longer shelf life on his vegetables, and release salt in the soil. Uncle Steve suggests using VermisTerra with less fertilizers.

Carmen Gispert Phd and viticulture advisor visits the vineyard to hear about Dennis’ results and the possibility of setting up trials and research.

BRIX – A measure of the amount of sugar in the juice of wine grapes. Grapes with 26 BRIX would yield dry wine with 14.5% alcohol, which is a typical alcohol percentage in good California wine.

VermisTerra as Alternative to Fumigation – ROI, and Value of Vermisterra

Agronomist Peter Viss,  shares about Vermisterra, a “biological wonder”, what makes it special, what problems it may fix. He uses it to help farmers substitute for fumigation, aerate soil, mitigate salt, provide strength to trees, and keep irrigation lines clean. Peter explains how to use VermisTerra as a standalone product or to compliment an existing program.

Why haven’t we heard of VermisTerra?
Something so different, hard to explain and people are afraid because it’s too fantastic. Everything it claims to be and more, and create models to think thru it. No one else has been able to produce it.

Specific examples:
– Worm castings and tea as substitute for chemical fumigation in almond orchards
– Nematode count goes from high to none
– Great to help farmers fix specific problems or maximize profit

From the Worst to the Best Production

I’ve been running a date ranch for decades. I’ve seen results with VermisTerra tea and recommended it to a farm that I consult. Their date palms on a certain field were watered heavily but still had dried leaves from the salt in the water and soil. Normally date palms produce 14-16 bunches of fruit. These averaged only 4 bunches per tree. That’s poor production.

After almost a year of using worm tea, the trees are producing 15 to 16 bunches per tree. The center new growth is all green. The manager there said, “We’ve never had this much production on this field. It’s gone from the worst producing field to having the best production.”

Farmer’s Appreciation Day and Visiting Derby Orchard

Uncle Steve and Mindy went on a road trip to Yuba City, a big agricultural area near Sacramento. We had a great time sharing the benefits of earthworm castings and worm casting tea. We met with almond, peach, prune, and walnut farmers at the Farmer’s Appreciation Lunch. Attorneys, council members, and farmers checked out tractors, solar panels and organic soil!  We ate some amazing Indian food and American BBQ!

Then we ended the day with a tour of Derby Orchard to see their prune and walnut trees. We chatted about worm castings, chemical vs organic fertilizers, correcting soil problems, the joys of farming after decades working in the corporate world. Uncle Steve checked their soil and trees, and was able to explain some of the causes of a couple challenges. Then we did a taste test while blind folded to prove that different brands and types of walnuts taste completely different. We really love the ladies at Derby Orchard and their dedication to fresh walnuts. Check out their Facebook page HERE. On our tour of the walnut orchards, we met the Derby girl’s two rescue pups, saw the neat harvesting machinery, and even got to hang out with their miniature ponies!
