A natural way to boost your soil, plants, and ecosystem

VermisTerra CharWise is wood vinegar or pyroligneous acid, is a powerful, eco-friendly liquid derived from natural hardwood during the process of making biochar.

  • Versatile natural product used in organic farming for pest control, soil improvement, and plant health.
  • Packed with organic acids, phenols, and lightweight biomolecules like Karrikins, which form in nature after wildfires.
  • Deodorizes compost, animal areas, and waste zones.
  • Used in composting, livestock care, cleaning, and even cosmetic preparations in traditional cultures.

What is

CharWise?

CharWise is a natural by-product created when wood is burned in low-oxygen conditions. The smoke is captured, condensed, and refined into a light brown liquid containing over 200 organic compounds—including beneficial acids, phenols, and trace minerals.

IMPROVES NUTRIENT AVAILABILITY

Organic acids like acetic, lactic, malic, and succinic acid help solubilize and mobilize nutrients like iron, potassium, phosphorus, and manganese.

INCREASES ROOT MASS

CharWise's organic acids and phenolic compounds improve nutrient mobilization and stimulate beneficial soil microbes, which in turn boost growth regulators like auxins to encourage lateral root development and overall root strength.

FEEDS SOIL MICROBES

When diluted and applied to soil, CharWise provides an easily accessible carbon and energy source that promotes microbial growth and activity.

INSECTS DISLIKE SMOKEY SMELL

CharWise's acetic acid and phenolic compounds emit a smokey, sour odor that disrupts insect sensory receptors. Many creatures have evolved to dislike the smell of smoke, and will flee.  CharWise'ts low pH damages their protective waxy coatings.

Why Use CharWise?

100% natural and non-toxic

Sustainable and made from renewable materials

Naturally made when producing biochar

Versatile with multi-purpose benefits, dilute with water before spraying or soaking

Used around the world for thousands of years by ancient civilizations

Stimulates seed germination. Reduces mildew and root rot.

Creates an unwelcome environment for certain creatures and pests.

Spraying diluted wood vinegar directly on or foliar spraying creates an unpleasant environment for certain pests.

Deodorizes bad smells in the garden and farm

Compounds in CharWise wood vinegar binds with smelly gas, neutralizing them.

The low ph (acidic) disrupts the environment that odor-causing microbes need to thrive, especially in compost, manure, or dirty water.

CharWise breaks down biofilms and grease on surfaces, helping remove embedded odors in barns, bins, or animal pens.
